Hanging On The Telephone

By Neil | February 28, 2010

Tune into ARFM internet radio today just after 5pm to catch Neil talking about the upcoming album release and any other such stuff that crops up. He’ll be talking on the telephone to Paul Baker, and you can stream the Soundscapes Show from here… Though don’t expect the sound of Neil’s voice to have the effect that Debbie Harry does.

Launch Show support act announcement…

By Dan | February 8, 2010

katie-buckhaven
We are pleased to announce that the support act for the ‘Progress Has No Patience’ launch show will be the awesome Katie Buckhaven. Katie’s style is an eclectic mix of jazz and folk songs, she has played support to Ben & Jason and Carina Round on the Acoustic Roadworks tour 2001.

Take a moment to read her official biography below and then pop on over to her myspace page (www.myspace.com/katiebuckhaven) and have a listen to her great music:

KATIE BUCKHAVEN:
“Discovered by Michael Parkinson, Katie Buckhaven has a unique and powerfully haunting voice. Her debut album was described by the Mail on Sunday as ‘Outstanding’, and was given 4 stars by The Guardian.

Her music is an evocative blend of spectral folk rock and laid back acoustic ballads; her voice is one of delicate passion and heart-breaking beauty. Last year she released her new EP, “Forever Can Wait”, before heading straight back into the studio to start work on her next album. She did manage to escape for long enough to play to sell out crowds at the Stables Theatre and the Aylesbury Limelight, as well as providing support to Ben’s Brother and Alex Cornish.

Katie will be a big hit with anyone who enjoys classy singing of classy songs – elegant, enchanting and emotional. “

One Down…

By Neil | January 25, 2010

ding-dong Friday night saw the band dusting down and shaking off the Christmas flab with a show at The Bell and Talbot in Bridgnorth, Shropshire. In an effort to remove the extra few pounds in excess weight that builds up over the Yuletide break with that one choccy too many, TDT embarked on a strict fitness regime prior to the show, managing to whittle down to a trim four-piece with a regime of a New Year de-tox. The result was a finely tuned, fit and healthy band ready to fire on all cylinders. However, like all post-Christmas exercise plans, there was the occasional wavering of the will which led to the inevitable chocolate biscuit being consumed, but, as the food folk say, you can’t make an omelette without your keyboard player’s amp blowing up. Or something like that.

Heavy

By Neil | January 11, 2010

anvil Well, all things told, that was a very heavy week for TDT. A collective deep sigh and welcoming of Monday is probably in order.

Ice. Not (N)Ice

By Neil | January 7, 2010

van-muppet-in-snow It all looks very picture-postcard, but the reality of the current meteorological situation kicked in this morning. Overnight sub-zero temperatures, coupled with being parked in a relatively exposed bit of road, and a working temperature at 7.30am of -5 degrees C meant that the Big Blue Van, veteran of many a TDT show, not only failed to really start, but conspired to prevent us from actually gaining access for a good 5 minutes due to the doors being welded together by ice. A valiant scraping effort brought the onset of early stage frostbite, and the windscreen wipers and windscreen are bonded at what appears to be a molecular level. All this because my brother’s car was laughably overheating and couldn’t be driven. Still, British perseverance won out, and we managed to get to work. Over an hour late, but here nonetheless. Just enough time to thaw out before attempting the repeat journey in even colder conditions. Good fun all round, really.

Kicking Off The Giggery-Pokery

By Neil | January 6, 2010

acoustic-in-the-grass The first show of the year is soon to be upon us, and it’ll be a return to the smallest, littlest venue in Shropshire, the Bell And Talbot. If you’ve not been to a gig here, you really owe it to yourself to venture forth and see how the band performs up close and personal in this great venue. Plenty of warmth, fun and frivolity are available on tap from both the band and Guy, the ever-present owner of the place. Do come down and remove the new year blues with TDT.

Click on the ‘gigs’ link for more details. Or if that’s too hard, click here.

Snow Business Like etc etc…

By Neil | January 5, 2010

traffic-and-snow-web-copy The sunny climate here in the middle of the UK has meant a grinding halt to the entire road network, most public transport and indeed international air links, with Manchester and Liverpool airports having closed runways. It’s times like these that we as a nation can rally round, gather our collective indomitable spirit together and triumph in the face of a bit of cold fluffy precipitation. Or, as actually happens, we can cry like babies, cancel  all school days, ring the office and claim our 2 mile car journey to work is impossible and stay home and cower under the duvet and wait for the armageddon to pass. Please, get a grip folks! It’s snow. The Canadians are laughing at us…
