Drums Are Down

The band have now unlocked the cave door and allowed the drummer back out into daylight after spending a week tracking drums for the new album. The grim reality of human inadequacy has been laid bare for all to see, the unforgiving metronomic tock-tock-tocking of the click track showing up all the mistakes and misinterpretations of individual beat placement in the cruelest possible way. But it beats working for a living. Unless you’re working beats for a living.
TDT will now move forward and turn to the stringed axe players to unleash their Weapons of Music Destruction onto the recording. It’s all go!
Recording Date Set
Posted by Neil | Filed under Dreams
TDT are heading into the studio to record their next studio album. From October, the band will be in the studio recording and compiling the songs that will feature in their upcoming opus, currently titled ‘We’re not sure what it’ll be called but it certainly won’t be eponymous’. The initial drum tracks will be laid down in Tamworth with ex UB40 sound engineer Alan Caves handling the desk duties, with follow up work to be done at the band’s own Treehouse recording studio. Expect further updates as the boys plunge into the realm of sonic sweetness!
As an aside, though the studios in Tamworth are lovely, they are not the studio featured in the photo for this post. That is Real World Studio, the one owned by Peter Gabriel. We can’t quite afford to record there yet. If you’re reading, Pete, sorry about the phone calls and emails. We did indeed hear from your legal people…
Progress Needs Patience

TDT have spent the last few weeks camped at the coalface of songwriting, chipping away with pick and axe to gather the fuel to use in stoking the fire of the next album, and have finally emerged from the depths of the pit, blackened and choked from the toil, triumphantly clutching the nuggets of black gold that will make up the songs of the next opus. The process hasn’t been smooth, but casualties have been kept to a minimum, with the canary only being found on the floor of it’s cage once, though this can be attributed to a particularly virulent strain of vindaloo consumed by Steve the night before. All of which is a roundabout way of saying that the songs are there, and now the recording can commence!

A reminder for you that in the next couple of weeks, the craziest band of Germans will be heading over to the UK to play some shows with TDT. Arilyn and The Dreaming Tree will be gracing venues in Buxton and Shrewsbury during May, and are probably going to have a whale of a time doing so, and quite simply, you’d be mad to miss it.
Friday May 18th the bands will be at The Orchestra Pit in Buxton, from 9pm and Saturday May 19th the bands roll into The Old Post Office in Shrewsbury, from 8.30pm. For further information, go to the gigs page and begin making your plans.
Cheers, To A City

The band would like to say a collective thank you to the city of Southampton. In the last couple of weeks, it seems to have become something of a second home to the ‘Tree, and with gigs at the Hobbit and the Firehouse, more action has taken place down in Hampshire than the Midlands. The band has had great gigs and great responses from the venues and the lovely folks in them, and so everyone should have a collective round of applause.
Cheers to Stella at the Hobbit, Rob at the Firehouse, and everyone else who we’ve met on our travels. We’ll be seeing you all again very soon!
Lord Of The Stings…

It’s a well known fact that TDT are huge fans of the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, and big fans of the Peter Jackson film adaptations as well as the books. It’s similarly well known that TDT is a huge fan of the Hobbit pub in Southampton, having played there on many occasions in the past. One of the things that TDT is most definitely not a fan of, however, is large corporate bodies throwing their weight around simply because they can. We would like to point your attention to this article from the BBC, no less, and ask you to take a moment to consider just what kind of situation allows this type of heavy-handedness to be acceptable. As far as we’re concerned, if the mighty Stephen Fry is on the side of the little man, (appropriate considering it’s the Hobbit we’re talking about…) that’s good enough for us.

They’re Coming!!!

It’s true. They are indeed coming. The Crazy Germans know as Arilyn will be sweeping into the UK during May for a short tour, playing some shows with the ‘Tree and generally making us all look quiet, shy and retiring in comparison. If you’ve not caught the band before, they’re well worth it, with an amazing show and brilliant songs. Information for the short Summer tour can be found on the gigs page, on Facebook or by using your psychic powers. Don’t miss the shows: they will be worth it.
On The Road Again

We’re pleased to release some news about where and when you’ll be able to see the band playing in the near future. TDT will be out and about playing a few shows to attempt to remove any semblance of ring rust as they plow on into getting things ship-shape and smart, ready for hitting the studio to record the next album. A glance at the gigs page on the website will inform you as to the whens and wheres of the deal.
Like A Duck

All may seem quiet and contented in the land of the ‘Tree, but the band are currently doing their best impression of a duck. All serene and calm and graceful on the surface, but underneath the waterline, away from the prying eyes of the land-bound observer, their feet are going ten to the dozen, frantically racing round juggling as many hats as there are mixed metaphors in this sentence.
There are more gigs in the pipeline, which we will be posting up soon, along with some news about other shows later in the year which should be very interesting. Songs are being click tracked and arranged for the new album, studios are being sourced and finances put in place. The rumour that the band also occasionally pick up instruments and plays music is currently being investigated.
Stay tuned, and don’t forget to follow the band on Facebook or any other of your preferred social networking sites!
Fingers In Pies

So last week had Neil A engineering and playing on a demo for another group, Neil S adding to the Gear List with further purchases for bass-related stuff, Stevie V arranging rehearsal sessions for a Eurythmics tribute band, and Dan arranging some songs written by one ‘Crazy’ Vince Neads for future recording. TDT HQ would like to reassure everyone reading this that TDT work is also carrying on apace. You can verify this by attending the show in Southampton on 14th January. When hopefully everyone will have cleaned the pie off their fingers…
