Venue Change

The gig due to take place this Sunday the 23rd November at Atticus in Bearwood, Birmingham has been moved to a different venue. It will now take place at Katie Fitzgerald’s in Stourbridge as part of the Winter Beer Festival, with TDT appearing alongside other acts from 4pm till 8pm. Certain members of the band will doubtless be partaking in the activities on offer, so come along and join in the fun. The map of the venue and further details can be found on the gigs page.

Anyone who’s even a casual reader of the shenanigans of TDT’s recent efforts will know that Mr. Jones has of late been holed up in his hobbit hole with wholewheat biscuits mixing the whole of the acoustic album. Now, what’s the worst thing, other than impending Armageddon, that could happen in those circumstances to delay progress? Yep, the computer that contains all the files and music could blow up. Which it promptly did when I had it back in the studio to do a little bit of moonlighting setting up click tracks for Metal band Intense, who I also play drums for. The computer’s power supply unit had decided that it had had enough of life, and shuffled off this mortal coil when I pushed the usual 230 volts through it’s socket. Very inconvenient, and left us with having to raid Dan’s other home computer for a spare PSU. The only conclusion is that the PSU must have been a drummer on the quiet. Very poor sense of timing…

Hi Peeps,

I have been beavering away mixing the new acoustic album and I am pleased to say that I have finished! With a sigh of relief from the lady up stairs who has been evicted from the living room we now have 11 finished songs (There is rumours that the remaining recordings will be released mid 09 as a second volume but keep that between me and you). The rest of the band will each receive a master tomorrow at our gig in Stourbridge where upon they tell me how crap they think it is! Never fail I have enlisted the aid of Dr Victor Mendoser the african witch doctor I met while climbing the twin peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro who has assured me the Voodoo/ Mojo spell he place upon the recording will work out just fine and the album will be greeted with happy ears.

So whats left to do I hear you ask? Next task is to register the master with the MCPS and then its off to see the wizard at the pressing plant all in good time for tea and cake at the CRS gig in December, oh yes and the small thing of artwork which is being done as you read…I think…I hope!

So, today’s the day that the most powerful man on earth gets voted into office. I find it funny that the UK media almost takes more notice and interest in the US election than our own. Funny, but sadly understandable. We only get to vote for the Red team or the Blue team, with essentially the same policies and ideas, whereas our cousins over the pond get to pick which direction the planet is going in from two completely different parties and candidates. Well, ok, they may have the same ideas on most aspects of foreign policy. And Health care. And both want to distance themselves from the previous White House incumbent. But other than that, they’re totally different. Honest.

So, who would you pick? I’ll watch with interest/horror/resignation the outcome, and then deal with it by hoping that whoever picks up the baton couldn’t possibly be as bad as George W. Could they?

I am back at home after a 6 hour drive from Penzance. It rained for most of the time I was there but did that stop me and my friends from tearing up the town? Those of you who know will know that answer all to well!!!
So now my attention is back to all things TDT and the continued mixing of the new Acoustic album. Half of the album is almost there. I now have only to wade through the lengthy emails from Jim and see if I can adjust anything to suit. Some things I am happy to leave as they are, as mixing is a very subjective process and one person may feel they want the bass panned to the middle and another person likes it where it is lol. (Something that will not doubt receive some debate)
So I will be picking up the studio PC and sitting in the living room once again to tweak the six semi finished mixes and then begin on the remaining six. I am hoping that I will have them finished by mid next week and we can then send them to be mastered. In the meantime Chris is working on the artwork which should be ready in the next week or so.

Lots of gear in the Treehouse. Scattered all over the place. All gear moved into seperate room in order to move it all back into the original room in the correct order. In essence, all the gear is now back where it was in the first place, only I have spent time moving it from A back to A via a temporary locale of B. Will someone remind me again of why I do this?

Well, the insanity has died down, the pulse returned to (something like) normal, and the crazy Germans have gone home. To all those of you who came out and caught us as we played all over the place with Arilyn, many thanks indeed for making it a great week and making it a lot of fun. Those of you that didn’t, well, where were you? Not only did you miss out on top tunesmithery from the ‘Tree, but you missed the added bonus of seeing quite possibly the most nuts band in Germany play too. We’ll certainly be arranging something with them again, if only to hear Jurgen’s ‘baby trapped in my keyboard’ squealing sound effect. Rock, and indeed, roll.

Acoustic Album update cont…

Hi folks, Dan monkey boy here. I have undertaken the task of mixing the our new acoustic album. I began on Sunday which was the first day I have had in over two weeks where I have not been playing guitar with the band or been on my way to a gig to play with crazy German Bastards!

We have currently 12 tracks ready for mixing. I have worked on 6 of these tracks over the past two days with in my opinion a positive outcome. I have asked the rest of the band for feedback on these rough first mixes and had some very encouraging reports.

So looks like tomorrow is going to be much the same as Sunday and today, glued to the sofa in front of my TV looking at Pro Tools with square eyes sipping tea and coffee all day and munching the only food my brain knows…short cake biscuits!

Acoustic album update…

Recording on the first TDT installment of our acoustic album has been completed. We have spent so much time over the past few months puring over the details and trying to get this just right. Jim’s double bass touch has added something that I couldn’t of imagined until I sat back and listened to a rough mix. Even in its raw state I had a massive grin on my face thinking it sounds this good now I cant wait to mix it!

So now we are at the mixing stage careful attention will be payed to not over do the production but being as honest possible. I think that’s one thing I like about this band is its approach to what it does when writing and recording, we just do what we do and that’s it, nothing more than that, not worrying about what potential listeners might think or writing to a certain style, its just about letting out whats inside and this acoustic recording is no different. I cant wait for people to sample it!
